There is a pretty new Linux around, running on x86, PowerPC, Sparc and Sparc64 systems. They offer basically a very small ISO at about 30MB, which can be downloaded much faster than a 20 times bigger image. The rest of the installation is being done using their package managment system “Portage”; making over 1880 precompiled application yours.
