Describing and retrieving photos using RDF and HTTP

W3C has published a technical recommendation in 2000, which allows to comment JPEG images with an XML-style inline-comment on http://www.w3.org/TR/photo-rdf/. They offer a Java-based GUI to configure your images too.

On the other hand, I wrote an additional feature in PHP to read out this comment from images on your server. It is up to you to XSLT it to your image ALT-tag or HREF-title. It is part of the PHP PEAR repository and no special extension is needed.

View the class at http://cvs.php.net and an example here:

$i = new Image_Remote("http://www.example.com/test.jpg");
if (PEAR::isError($i)) {
print "ERROR: " . $i->getMessage();
} else {
$size = $i->getImageSize();
$comment = $i->getImageComment();
}

Happy imaging!
