Sharing files on a machine with different OSs installed can be a pain. So I was looking for good old Samba to be available on OS X. A "sudo apt-install samba" does most of the job. There are in fact some files to create to have the service available right from start-up. Some good advice can be found in a tutorial by Jason Deraleau [1], although it dates back to 2001.
I don't quite understand. Why do you have to do "apt-get install samba", when Samba comes with the OS? Or is there something missing in the version which comes with OS X?
I don't use/need Samba, therefore I'm really wondering, as I always thought Samba is part of OSX ;)
Oh, while looking for samba it did not seem to be availabe though and yes, there are other ways to share files... I was just wondering ;-) Editing a shared file in an OS X folder from within an application on Windows in a Virtual PC often fails or results in a crashed file. So that is why I was seeking alternatives...
