Zattoo on Kubuntu (Feisty Fawn)

Although made for Debian Etch and Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy) the Zattoo 2.2.10.6523 build [1] works with Feisty Fawn. The following installs had to be executed:

$ sudo apt-get install libxul-common libmozjs0d libnspr4-0d libnss3-0d libxul0d
$ sudo dpkg -i zattoo-2.2.10.6523-i386.deb

Spiralfrog und Universal am Werbetrommeln

Es war nicht zu überhören - Universal bringt mit Spiralfrog Musik zum Gratisdownload; werbefinanziert. Gemäss Techcrunch [1] sieht das dann so aus:

Spiral Frog will offer a desktop downloader for Windows Media Files (no iPods!) that can be listened to on one PC and two portable devices. Here’s the kicker - you must log in to the Spiral Frog service at least once per month, and see their ads, or your files will stop playing!

Sowohl Usability als auch Interoperabilität werden dadurch käumlich gesteigert werden, wenn man sich erst durch eine werbefinanzierte Plattform durchwühlen muss, um dann DRM geschützte Dateien herunterladen zu können.

Filme unter einer CC Lizenz bei Eifachfilm

Eifachfilm [1] sucht, gemäss eigenen Angaben auf ihrer Website, Filme, welche unter einer Creative Commons Lizenz zur Verfügung gestellt werden können.

Regisseure kramen ihre Filme aus dem schrank
filme die keiner mehr zeigen mag
Die man aber sehen will
independent one show wonders filme abo
und so funktionierts

So, das will heissen, es wird ein Podcast zur Verfügung gestellt, der bspw. auch in iTunes abonniert werden kann.

Es kann sein, dass D. mit seinem stilistischen Ausbruch bei der Abgabe der Bewertung für Juliens Auftritt im Kern den Nagel auf den Kopf getroffen hat. In seiner Ausdrucksweise hätter er sich aber etwas zurücknehmen dürfen. Es würde mich aber dennoch erstaunen, wenn Julien nächste Woche noch dabei ist.

How to describe DRM?

Paula Le Dieu, Director off the BBC Creative Archive, described DRM as an envelope with a transparent window that only allowed you to see part of the content, without getting access to it.

And to continue:

Access to the BBC Creative Archive will be based on the Creative Commons model already working in the United States (www.creativecommons.org) which proposes a middle way to rights management, rather than the extremes of the pure public domain or the reservation of all rights.

Well expressed ;) We can only speculate what BBC's adoption of this licence for its Creative Archive might mean for Creative Commons and what sideeffects this undertaking could have regarding Switzerland. Is there in Switzerland anything comparable to BBC? I am not sure, since I am not quite aware of the history of BBC [2]. Maybe BBC is deeper integrated in the Britisch Society than the SSR SRG idée suisse with us [3]. This is something I need to think about later and repost under a different title. ;)

Better or worse to become Musicstar

Zur Zeit steht noch Lotti, Claudia, Salome, Jessie, Julien und Daniel die Möglichkeit offen, Musicstar 2005 zu werden. Ich würde mal behaupten, dass des Titel des Musicstars als Garant für eine erfolgreiche Karriere nicht nicht zwingen hoch zu werten ist; im Gegenteil. Einmal Musicstar, immer Musicstar. Julien scheint den Titel am ehrgeizigsten zu verfolgen. Dann sei es ihm gegönnt. Die Stimmen der anderen fünf Teilnehmer und Teilnehmerinnen sind so eigen, dass wir auch bei jenen auf Produktionen gespannt sein dürfen, die aus eigenem Antrieb, auch nach der Ära Musicstar, auf uns zukommen werden. Aber es ist ja noch nicht ausgestanden ;)

Media Portal vs. Media Center Edition 2005

To make it short. I haven't tried both of them ;) The current hardware is not yet trimmed to fulfill all those media needs. But I was wondering where the Open Source solution Media Portal [1] would differ from Microsoft Media Center Edition 2005 [2] - if they are at all comparable.

From the Microsoft page:

Well, yes. They seem to be comparable from a users perspective. It is mostly about computer based entertainment. Mostly your eyes and ears are addressed ;) For further commenting those tools I will need to upgrade my whole PC hardware... which will last months I guess. ;)

Das erste "Hidden Treasures"-Mixtape von den DJs Pesa & Ilarius war ein voller Erfolg und beigesterte Headz aus der ganzen Schweiz und im nahen Ausland. Nun folgt endlich die lang erwartet zweite Version. Das Konzept wurde natürlich beibehalten und so befinden sich auf dem Nachfolger wieder diverse HipHop-Tracks inkl. die original Versionen des ursprünglichen Funk-Samples.
